Laba Sosseh y Super Conjunto (45t, N'Dardisc 45-16,1972)


Great 45 from one of the most important musician in the afro-latin area. He was born in Gambia, and was one of the leader of Le Star Band de Dakar during the sixties. In 72, the year he recorded this 45, he formed the Super Star de Dakar in Abidjan. At the end of the seventies he went to the "mecque" of Salsa, New York and became invovled in a lot of musical projects during thirty years, included Africando. The A side is a version of the standard Los Carrereteros singing in spanish. The B side, my favourite, is a composition of Sosseh for the ten years anniversary of Senegalese independance, one this one he's singing in wolof....



Tous ceux qui se baladent de temps en temps sur ce blog connaissent Laba Sosseh. Il fut l'un des précurseurs de son cubain en Afrique de l'Ouest, notamment au sein du Star Band de Dakar dont il fut l'un des leaders durant les années 60. On le retrouve ici en 1972, l'année ou il a quitté le Star Band et le Sénégal pour monter le Super Star de Dakar à Abidjan, le spot où une grande majorité des musiciens de la sous-région se trouvait alors. Sur la face A, il reprend un classique de la musique cubaine, Los Carreteros, arrangé à sa sauce et chanté en espagnol. Sur la face B, le morceau Sénégal an X est une célébration du dixième anniversaire de l'indépendance du pays de Cheikh Anta Diop.
